Summary
The Systems Estimator plays a critical role in B&D Industries' success, directly shaping the company's ability to win work and grow. Primarily focusing on accurately forecasting the cost, size, and duration of technology infrastructure, fiber optic, security, life safety, and building automation processes. This role is responsible for developing the cost information needed to support business decisions and provide competitive and accurate estimates that align with the organizational goals and objectives. This position requires expertise in interpreting plans, specifications, riser diagrams, one-line drawings, product data sheets, and system integration documents. This role manages specialized work efficiently, with confidence and competence. This position calls for above-average attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a firm commitment to meeting deadlines while juggling multiple simultaneous deadlines. It also requires the ability to use technology effectively and to continually learn new and updated software to keep pace with business needs. Estimators are considered the "tip of the spear" at B&D Industries; their work is essential to our continued growth and reputation.

Responsibilities
· Responsible for the management of all plan and specification estimating activities for Technology Infrastructure, Fiber Optic Systems, Security Systems, Life Safety Systems, Mechanical Controls, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and Systems Integration scopes (Divisions 23, 27, and 28, and applicable low-voltage portions of Division 26) in a way that maximizes the total profitability of the company
· Manage the pricing validation process for negotiated work and pricing of change proposals
· Meet the strategic and operational goals of the department through collaboration with leadership
· Effectively level bids by reviewing vendor and subcontractor quotations, scope coverage, exclusions, and assumptions with Area Managers and other stakeholders
· Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers, consulting engineers, owners, general contractors, technology consultants, and suppliers
· Consult with Business Development and Estimating leadership on project pursuit and bid strategy
· Review plans, specifications, addenda, and vendor/subcontractor proposals to ensure complete and accurate scope coverage
· Regularly consult with estimating team members and management during the development of estimates to ensure consistency with company strategy and goals
· Prepare conceptual, budgetary, design-build, negotiated, and hard-bid estimates
· Review and estimate structured cabling systems, fiber optic infrastructure (OSP and ISP), security systems, access control systems, video surveillance systems, intrusion detection systems, fire alarm systems, building automation systems (BAS), HVAC controls, energy management
systems, wireless infrastructure, DAS/BDA systems, and other integrated technology, security, life safety, and controls systems
· Coordinate scope and system integration requirements between mechanical, electrical, and technology disciplines
· Update labor units, material pricing, and estimating database information as required
· Identify and communicate project risks, scope gaps, long-lead procurement concerns, and other potential unknowns to management
· Prepare and review change order pricing and cost estimates
· Develop methods to supply data and information to other departments to maximize effectiveness
· Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, databases, and other technology tools efficiently and effectively
· Actively cross-train in electrical estimating to support Division 26 opportunities and expand estimating support across divisions
· Physical demands include long hours sitting, using a computer, standing, pulling/pushing, walking, lifting, and climbing
· Job requires advanced computer proficiency and advanced critical thinking skills

Education and Experience
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents is required.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams, and Project.
· Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or a related field preferred.
· Relevant work experience may substitute for the degree, such as estimating, field installation, project management, or industry experience.
· Experience using estimating software platforms preferred.
· Intermediate knowledge of the following systems preferred: structured cabling, fiber optics, security, access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire alarm and life safety, building automation (BAS), HVAC controls, energy management, DAS/BDA, and wireless infrastructure.
· Familiarity with major manufacturers and product lines, and an understanding of CSI Divisions 23, 27, and 28, preferred.
· Understanding of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices for technology, communications, security, life safety, and controls systems preferred.
