Summary

The Director role must be able to steer the company in the most profitable direction while also implementing and living B&D’s mission, vision, and values. The role requires a very high capacity to think strategically and critically, while supporting strategic guidelines developed amongst the executive and director groups, to drive the objectives defined for the company. The expectation from the Executive team of this role is to act as a team builder, leader, and mentor to cultivate and support the growth of their teams, while maintaining a sincere focus on the highest customer experience deliverable, to ensure continued profitable revenue growth.

A Construction Director is socially poised, extroverted, and a problem solver who likes change and innovation while influencing the big picture. The Construction Director reports to and collaborates with the Sr. Director of Construction and other executive leadership and is responsible for the overall management of the assigned areas of oversight. The position takes the leadership lead in obtaining, estimating, planning, coordinating, and completing the work. Maintaining and strengthening appropriate relationships with clients will be vital to ensure satisfaction and growth. They will actively participate in business development and marketing efforts to obtain new relationships to grow the area’s clients and project backlog. Directing and designing activities and/or projects is crucial as this will provide direction and support for the area’s daily operational activities. The position serves as the intermediary between employees in the area and executive management. The job requires the ability to act independently, have a sense of urgency, and possess the confidence to handle a variety of challenges to achieve success. The focus of this job is on achieving results that are aligned with the larger picture of the organization and its strategic goals. The initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job.

Roles

· Develop and execute the company’s business strategies to attain the goals of the BOD and Executive Team

· Act as an ethical, strategic, and inspirational leader and mentor to assigned area and company as a whole 

· Provide strategic advice and direction to team members and report back on status and developments to the BOD and Executive Team

· Communicate and maintain trusted relationships with employees, business partners, and support (vendors, subcontractors, etc.)

· Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate achievement by planning cost-effective operations and market development activities

· Analyze problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure company survival and growth

· Define opportunities to attract, develop, and retain the best talent to support our Mission, Vision, and Values

· Identify, create, and implement opportunities to grow personnel to support their professional development as well as company growth

Responsibilities

· Develop and execute annual, tactical, and strategic business plans that cover a specific geographical area, function, and/or client, which will drive advancement and improvement in the organization

· Read and understand all terms and conditions of agreed-upon contracts and scope of work in its entirety and fully understand the contract language at the onset of every project to direct the project team accordingly

· Contract negotiation and executions within assigned area

· Planning, staffing, organizing, and directing activities relating to projects performed by personnel in a safe manner

· Operate on an advanced level of customer interfacing and relationship building

· Provide routine onsite visits designed to gauge customer satisfaction of ongoing and completed work

· Actively participate in the selection of new area staff, performance reviews, and development of existing staff and foster a positive team environment to strengthen employee engagement, development, and morale

· Review and approve project planning initiatives, monitor financial performance against established budgets, and oversee work completion against established schedules

· Lead marketing and business development efforts directed at its assigned geographical area, functional area, and/or client

· Remain accountable for project performance within assigned area

· Work with executive leadership to prepare annual business plans, budgets, and manage area profit/loss including projects and overhead to maximize profitability

· Implement and enforce all of B&D’s safety, project, general, and administrative policies, and procedures

· Projection/budget management and timely preparation for monthly WIP meetings

· Review estimates for potential jobs and participating in the preparation of large change order estimates

· Effective mentorship skills, act as the primary source of help, support, and assistance to direct reports, and availability to all area staff

· Strong supervisory skills will allow effective evaluation of staff and/or processes, directly or indirectly, through multiple levels of supervision

· Review, implement, interpret, and explain applicable laws and regulations related to work in their area

· Handle difficult and sensitive situations using sound, independent judgment within general policy and legal guidelines while seeing the employee through to resolution

· Assist managers in analyzing breakout estimates from estimators and formulate their own cost projections based on personal understanding of the project

· Physical demands include long hours sitting, using a computer, standing, pulling/pushing, walking, lifting, and climbing

· The job requires intermediate computer proficiency and advanced critical thinking skills

· Other duties, activities, and responsibilities may vary and change as assigned
 

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related degree required 

· Graduation of a trade apprenticeship program may substitute for required degree 

· Relevant work experience (4+ years) may substitute for the degree or certificate

· Project Management Certification preferred 

· 5+ years management experience in the construction industry required 

· OSHA-30 required
